St. Mary Catholic High School (SMCHS) is pleased to announce that Jeff Chew will return as head coach for the SMC Girls Basketball Team, beginning with the 2017-18 school year. Chew will replace SMC Alumna Kali Houselog Sawyer, who is leaving coaching to spend time with her growing family. “We are grateful for the enthusiasm and commitment that Coach Sawyer brought as the leader of our girls basketball program, and we wish her the very best,” stated SMCS Athletic & Activities Director Adam Bates.

Bates also stated, “Coach Chew is one of the most successful coaches in our school’s history, in any sport, and we are looking forward to him leading our girls basketball program again. During his previous 17 years here, Jeff built a very strong program, and we are confident that he will be able to do so again.” During Chew’s previous time as the Zephyrs’ coach, the teams won two state titles and were runners-up once. His overall coaching record to date is 376-158.

Jeff Chew and his wife, Debbie, have three daughters, all of whom are all alumnae of St. Mary Catholic High School and played basketball at the school. The Chews also have three sons-in-law and three grandchildren.  Chew shared that he is looking forward to returning to his children’s alma mater, and brings with him a dedicated and loyal coaching staff who have experience building quality programs.
