It is that time of year again! The St. Mary Catholic Schools family feels it is important to recognize outstanding accomplishments of our graduates, faculty and close friends, as well as their contributions to their communities. For that purpose, we have established several awards for these SMCS alumni and friends. The deadline for awards nominations is Friday, April 30.
Here are the list of awards that we are accepting nominations for.
Alumni:
Outstanding Catholic Christian Service Award
The Outstanding Catholic Christian Award honors an alum who has demonstrated faithful service to the Lord in vocational ministry, Christian service or a church leadership position, and through his or her continued support of SMCS. The nominee exhibits a self-sacrificing way of life by going beyond expectations in service to others.
Alumni Distinguished Service Award
The Alumni Distinguished Service Award recognizes an alum who has given his or her time, energy and resources to enhance SMCS and the community. He or she exhibits a high degree of leadership, character and integrity. This person’s loyalty and service support SMCS and the greater community in moving forward. The nominee must have graduated from SMCHS at least ten years ago.
Alumni Achievement Award
The Alumni Achievement Award is presented to an alum who displayed strong leadership while a student at SMCHS, who has achieved distinction in his/her community and/or field of expertise, who continues to support SMCS and/or Catholic education, and who lives out Christian values.
Athletic Hall of Fame
The nomination for induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame requires that the individual brought recognition to SMCHS through athletic/coaching accomplishments, is currently respected in his/her community and models Christian values. An alum nominee must have graduated from SMCHS at least ten years ago.
Educator/Staff:
St. John Baptist de la Salle Outstanding Teacher Award
The Outstanding Teacher Award is presented to a current SMCS teacher who continually inspires and academically challenges his/her students. This award was established to recognize excellence in teaching, with a focus on creativity, rapport with students, positive attitude and high-quality instruction. The Outstanding Teacher Award recognizes a special teacher who has an exceptional relationship with students, parents, and peers, contributes constructively and positively to the school and SMCS, and lives his/her faith in and out of the classroom. The recipient of this award challenges his/her students to work to their highest potential and teaches them to set high self-expectations and standards.
St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Award for Positive Influence
The Positive Influence Award is presented to a current SMCS staff member who makes an exceptional difference in the lives of our students and their families. This person continually goes above and beyond to make sure that our students feel school is a haven for learning and growing. He or she promotes personal growth, spirituality and life-long learning as the path to future success. Award winners are recognized for going well beyond expectations for the good of SMCS students, their families and the entire SMCS system.
St. Anne Award for SMCS Spirit
The SMCS Spirit Award is presented to a current SMCS staff member who consistently represents all SMCS schools in a positive and enthusiastic manner. This individual inspires others by actively engaging co-workers, students and families to support the SMCS mission and vision, and is committed to the concept of a P3-12 Catholic school system in our community. This person displays an upbeat attitude, promotes and participates in activities and events and encourages school spirit in others. He or she enthusiastically encourages students, parents, families, parishioners and the community to learn more about our schools and takes personal pride in and responsibility for the success of SMCS through their positive work.
St. Isidore of Seville Award for Promising Innovation
The SMCS Award for Promising Innovation is presented to a current SMCS staff member who has been with SMCS for five years or fewer, and who shows distinction in innovation. This award seeks to recognize an engaged employee who fully uses the resources provided by SMCS, seeks mentors within our community and freely shares his/her time, talent and ideas with other system employees and students to support the SMCS values and strategic goals. This employee demonstrates ingenuity and resourcefulness while inspiring creativity and critical thinking in others.

SMCHS SPIRIT Volunteer Service Award
The SMCHS SPIRIT Volunteer Service Award is presented to a school parent or volunteer to honor their extraordinary commitment and service to SMCHS. This person continually goes above and beyond without the expectation of recognition.

The Honorary Alumni Award is presented to a non-graduate of SMCHS make a significant impact by going above and beyond in his/her commitment to our school. This individual selflessly shares his or her time and talents with the school and consistently represents SMCHS in a positive manner throughout all his/her volunteer efforts.
