STEM Club
The St. Mary Catholic Schools STEM Education Club is an after-school engineering education program where students can explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through hands-on mechanical design, build, and computer programming activities.
The students are mentored by adult volunteers who have an interest in STEM Education and who enjoy sharing their interests with the students. Competition robotics is the club’s core activity but the club allows the students to explore just about any STEM activity they desire. In addition to robotics, the STEM Education Club offers programs in aviation technology and electronics.
At the start of each school year, the students form teams and begin designing and building robots to successfully complete tasks based on the current VEX Robotics competition season game challenge. After the robots are built, programmed, tested, debugged and tested again, the teams are ready to compete with their robots against other high school robotics teams from around the area. SMCHS has been very successful winning many awards at local, state, and world championship competition events. More important though, the students learn to work together, create, problem solve, and build leadership skills and form alliances with each other and their competition peers.
Many of our graduates who were members of the STEM Education Club have gone on to become successful engineers and other technology professionals.
STEM CLUB “FLY IN”
Hosted by the SMCS STEM Club, the “FLY IN” is an event to encourage STEM and aviation educations to young people through hands-on and fun flight related activities.
Students grades 1 through 8 have the opportunity to race drones, pilot camera drones, launch model rockets, and more. The event is typically held in July.

- Learn About the Science of Paper Airplanes, Rockets, and Drones
- Drive on the Remote Controlled Car Course
- Glow in the Dark Foam Gliders
- Launching Model Rockets
