Disney’s The Lion King JR. is playing at the Jane Bergstrom Fine Arts Education Center starting on Friday, October 21 at 7pm for 3 performances. The 60-minute musical, designed for middle-school aged performers, is based on the Broadway production directed by Julie Taymor and the 1994 Disney film. The St. Mary Middle School cast contains approximately 40 students on the cast and crew led by Fine Arts Director, Eric Conner.

“When I heard we weren’t able to perform The Lion King back in 2020 due to the pandemic, I knew that this year would be a great opportunity to bring it back to life and still involve a lot of members from the 2020 cast, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. The Lion King is a Disney classic that everyone knows and loves and the students at St. Mary Catholic Middle School are doing a great job getting into character and belting the
music at the top of their lungs. It’s definitely a fun show.” – Eric Conner, SMCS Fine Arts Director

The Lion King JR. tells the story of the epic adventures of a curious cub named Simba as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destiny as king. Along the way, the young lion encounters a colorful cast of characters including spunky lioness Nala, charismatic meerkat Timon, and loveable warthog Pumbaa. To claim his rightful place on the throne and save his beloved Pridelands , Simba must find his inner strength and confront his wicked Uncle Scar. The Lion King JR. features classic songs from the 1994 film such as “Hakuna Matata” and the Academy Award®-winning “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” as well as additional songs penned for the Broadway production.

A performance of Disney’s The Lion King JR. is open to the public at the Jane Bergstrom on Friday and Saturday, October 21 & 22 at 7pm and on Sunday, October 23 at 2pm. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for seniors or students. You can find out more information on their website: smcsfinearts.org.
