We invite you to explore the many ways you can support St. Mary Catholic Schools. Tuition and parish support do not cover the full cost of educating a student, so we rely on your generosity to continue to provide a high quality Catholic education. Whether you make a financial gift to the SMCS Annual Fund, attend one of the exciting fundraising events or sponsor an event or initiative, every gift is very much appreciated and put to good use in our schools.

Employers’ Matching Gifts
Many area businesses offer their employees the opportunity to increase their contributions by matching a percentage of their financial donations, or by making a donation to an organization after a certain number of community volunteer hours have been recorded. View a list of employers who increase their employees’ contributions in this way.
St. Mary Catholic Schools is blessed to have dozens of endowed funds that continue to benefit our school community in specific ways. View a list of the endowed funds, and please consider participating in an existing account or creating a new fund for an area of Catholic education that is dear to you.
F.A.T.E. Endowed Funds
In a strategic move designed to fund important initiatives well into the future, St. Mary Catholic Schools used a portion of the proceeds from an estate gift, as well as private donations, to establish four endowed funds. Collectively known by the acronym F.A.T.E. (Fine arts, Athletics/activities, Technology, Emerging educators), these accounts will provide future funding for initiatives in those four areas that are not covered by the system’s budget. They are also a way for SMCS supporters to direct their donations to an area in which they are particularly interested.
- The fine arts fund was created to assist with costs for special projects or needs relevant to SMCS fine arts programming and the Jane Bergstrom Fine Arts Education Center.
- The athletic/activities fund was created from the TCCES athletic fund, which was established in 2011 as a means of supporting special athletic department needs or projects that are not covered in the system’s or the SMCS Booster Club’s annual budget.
- The technology fund was created to supplement funding for technology upgrades, system maintenance and equipment needs that are not covered by the system’s annual budget.
- The emerging educators fund was created to supplement the income of beginning educators (defined as being in their second through sixth year of teaching) in the form of a bonus. The emerging educators fund was created to supplement the income of beginning educators (in their second through sixth year of teaching) in the form of a bonus for choosing to teach in a Catholic school. Qualified teachers can apply on an annual basis.
The general policy for the investment of the endowment funds is mainly directed at preserving the principal of the fund, and secondarily at securing reasonable income and capital appreciation. Once the funds reach $10,000 in value and have existed for at least one year, distributions from the funds will be made in accordance with the SMCS Endowment Fund Board’s policy of at least 5% of the principal each year. Distribution of the interest earned on each fund will be determined by a group of SMCS personnel familiar with the particular initiative.
Your contribution–whether it is intended for use today or as in investment in our students for tomorrow– makes a difference in the lives of SMCS students. View the planned giving brochure for more information about how you can help!
The SMC Foundation
The SMC Foundation oversees the management of and distribution from several endowed accounts that benefit St. Mary Catholic High School. There are currently funds that provide tuition assistance, funds that provide scholarships to SMCHS graduating students and funds that provide assistance to the overall operating budget and greatest needs. These accounts are held at The Catholic Foundation through the Diocese of Green Bay and Associated Financial Services. Every one of these funds can be added to at any time, as described in the planned giving brochure.
In addition to these annual events that directly support our schools, several fundraisers take place each year, sponsored by parent groups and clubs to support student activities.
TASTE! A Brewfest Event
TASTE! A Brewfest Event is St. Gabriel Elementary’s single largest fundraiser of the year. Past proceeds have provided tuition assistance and educational resources such as Smart boards for classrooms, playground maintenance, school office communication equipment, new desks, cafeteria tables, computers, student field trips and more! Formerly known just as Brewfest, TASTE! A Brewfest Event has been re-imagined as a fresh new and enjoyable evening, and will be held at The Ballroom at the Reserve in Neenah on Friday, October 13, 2017.
In November of each year, the SMCS community gathers for our one-and-only systemwide fundraiser. A new concept, Z-Night, will be introduced in 2017 to promote unity and fellowship among our entire SMCS community–alumni, school families, parishes and community supporters. With a lower a admission fee, plenty of fun games and yummy food, Z-Night will be a casual and festive event for all adults to enjoy. All proceeds go to maintaining our facilities, purchasing curriculum materials and supporting our SMCS students. Every SMCS family is asked to sell a designated number of raffle tickets, purchase event tickets or make a cash donation to fulfill their annual fundraising fee. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this evening of fun, faith and friends! The inaugural Z-Night will take place at Waverly Beach on Saturday, November 11, 2017.
Many Gifts, One Nation: A Day of Giving to Catholic Schools
Twenty years ago, Saint Pope John Paul II said: “Yours is a great gift to the Church, a great gift to your nation.” Countless people in our country have been blessed by the many gifts of Catholic schools. However, many adults have lost touch with their local Catholic school community. It is time for those people who have been impacted by your school to reconnect with the community that gave them so much, and give back. The National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) is sponsoring the online giving campaign: Many Gifts, One Nation: A Day of Giving to Catholic Schools. This is a time for individuals to give back to their local Catholic school. This national day of philanthropy and camaraderie will invite all people, across the country, who have been impacted by Catholic school education in ways big and small to financially donate at a local level.
Scheduled for a 24-hour period beginning at 8:00 a.m. on January 30, 2018, this is a beautiful way for the SMCS community to participate in a nationwide effort that will benefit our schools directly.
St. Mary Elementary School hosts a special evening each year to raise funds for the school. This year’s annual Winter Escape fundraiser will take place on Friday, January 26, 2018, with a brand-new location and exciting theme!
Wines Around the World
Thanks to everyone who joined us for this perfect night to catch up with friends and shop the hundreds of silent and live auction items at St. Margaret Mary‘s Wines Around The World. Visit Wines Around the World to see the sponsors who helped make it successful. The date for the next Wines Around the World is Saturday, February 24, 2018.
Each spring, St. Mary Catholic High School hosts Zephyrfest, a spectacular evening of fine food, music and a dazzling array of silent and oral auction offerings, Zephyrfest helps to defray the operational costs of the school, which in turn reduces the overall SMCS budget. This highly successful event requires the participation of more than one hundred dedicated volunteers. Zephyrfest 2018 will be held on April 21, 2018 at the new expo center in Appleton!
