St. Mary Catholic Middle School

Progress Reports

St. Mary Catholic Middle School recognizes the importance of communicating with a student’s family about his or her progress throughout middle school. As a result, there are many ways that parents can stay informed. In addition to the formal notifications listed below, parents/guardians are encouraged to email or phone instructors with questions before they become issues, keeping in mind that teachers are occupied with classroom duties during the school day and may not be able to provide an immediate response. Faculty and staff contact information can be found on our directory page.

PowerSchool is an online portal that makes it easy for parents and students to keep up to date with assignments and grades. This internet-accessed program facilitates the flow of information between parents, students and teachers, and is a powerful tool for checking a child’s latest grades, receiving email alerts when new grades are posted and seeing what assignments are missing or incomplete. Students and parents are given access to the program by using secure, privacy protecting passwords.

Edmodo, a tool designed strictly for educational purposes, is a free and secure learning network for teachers, students, and schools. All St. Mary Catholic Middle School teachers use this program, which provides a safe way for teachers and students to connect, share content, access homework, participate in discussions, manage due dates, and receive class information.

Progress reports (report cards) are sent home at the end of each nine-week period. Students and parents should carefully review the student’s progress and contact the teacher or school if there are questions regarding grades. Grades are updated on PowerSchool at least once a week.

The SMCMS Honor Roll is a special recognition for academic achievement. It is based on the total grade point average of all assignments/tests for the preceding quarter and is posted four times a year.

The designations are:
Highest honors: GPA of 3.75 to 4.0
High honors:  GPA of 3.5 to 3.74
Honors:  GPA of 3.0 to 3.49

Two times per year, SMCMS students participate in standardized testing known as MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) and the results from those evaluations are shared with parents. Visit the TESTING page for more information about MAP.

Mandatory parent-teacher-student conferences occur during the first quarter of the school year and student-led conferences are held in the third quarter.

The school’s policy for assignments and homework can be accessed in the SMCMS Parent/Student Handbook (updated 7/28/17).
