SMCMS not only encourages parents to remain active in the lives of their children, the school actually expects it! A unique requirement of 40 hours of volunteer commitment to the school can be fulfilled in a variety of ways via volunteer hours and/or involvement time. A $200 fee per family is assessed on the tuition bill, which is adjusted quarterly according to the amount of volunteer time that is claimed ($5.00 per hour). Volunteer needs in specific and/or general areas are announced in the school newsletter, with activities varying from SMCMS office-centered help, to athletic events, to at-home jobs.
Parents are asked to keep track of their volunteer hours on the parent involvement log found on the FORMS page. Logs are to be completed and turned in to the office, and should be completed with all dates and specific details.
The SMCS Booster Club (which benefits all middle and high school students), asks parents to work five shifts for each athlete in each sport, with a maximum of 20 shifts per family. SMCMS will allow families to count up to ten hours of volunteering at high school events toward a family’s middle school involvement hours requirement. Parent who work at a middle school event may use those hours to count toward both booster club and middle school parent obligations, up to 20 shifts.
