St. Mary Catholic High School

Worship

Faith and worship opportunities are vital to the mission of St. Mary Catholic High School. To foster this foundation, we offer the opportunity for weekly Mass and celebrate monthly all-school liturgies, chapel visits, prayer services, Eucharistic Adoration, Reconciliation services and daily prayer. We have the opportunity to worship as a faith community in many different ways:

Prayer

  • daily morning prayer during announcements
  • community prayer services

Liturgy

  • Mass or prayer service on many Wednesday mornings, followed by a mentor period
  • all-school Mass held monthly
  • opportunities for students to be liturgical ministers as lectors, gift bearers, servers, music ministers, Eucharistic ministers (confirmed students) and sacristan assistants
  • availability of leadership roles in planning and hosting the annual liturgy for the entire SMCS community at the beginning of each school year
  • volunteering for ministry roles in students’ home parishes or churches

Sacraments

  • Sacramental Reconciliation services during Advent and Lent each year

Other Worship and Spiritual Development Opportunities

  • Eucharistic Adoration and Mass on the first Friday of each month
  • all-class retreat
  • healing services
  • participating in a “living” Stations of the Cross during Lent every year
  • a day-long pilgrimage by the junior class to Our Lady of Good Help Shrine
  • religion classes  that incorporate various forms of prayer in the classroom including Lectio Divina, the rosary, the divine mercy chaplet, guided meditation with the scriptures, Advent and Lenten prayer experiences, praying in nature and St. Ignatius’ “examen of conscience”
