Exploring Newton’s Laws with Model Rocketry
WHEN: July 12 & 13, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
WHERE: SMCS STEM Education Center
WHO: Students entering grades 4-8 (Maximum 20 students)
DIRECTOR: SMCS STEM Education Mentor Greg Cheslock
In this two-morning program, students will learn in simple terms how a model rocket and rocket motor work. Through hands-on demonstrations and building/launching their own rocket, students will learn the basic principles of rocket propulsion and the interaction of forces: weight, thrust, drag and lift. Students will also learn about the basic electric circuit by assembling an electric rocket launch control system. Students will have fun using their imagination, creativity and building skills while exploring Newton’s third law of motion as they learn about rocket propulsion.
Participants may be bring a snack/water bottle. Please direct questions to Greg Cheslock.
